Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Set up three dredging bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with Dijon mustard, and one with crushed pretzels mixed with garlic powder and smoked paprika.
  3. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip in the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly in the crushed pretzels.
  4. Place coated chicken on a lined baking sheet and brush each piece with olive oil or melted butter. Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping once halfway through cooking.
  5. In a skillet over medium heat, sear each piece of chicken for about 5–6 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. For the sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, whisk in flour until smooth, then gradually add milk while stirring. Once thickened, stir in mustards and cheddar; season to taste.
  7. Serve hot, generously topped with cheddar mustard sauce.
