Moo Shu Chicken is a flavorful Chinese stir-fry made with tender strips of chicken, crisp vegetables, and a savory sauce, all wrapped in soft Mandarin pancakes. It’s quick, colorful, and perfect for a satisfying homemade takeout-style dinner.

Ingredients

For the Chicken
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce

For the Stir-Fry
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup shredded carrots
4 green onions, sliced
1/4 cup bamboo shoots, sliced

For Finishing Touches
1 tablespoon sesame oil
Salt and black pepper, to taste

For Serving
8 Mandarin pancakes or small flour tortillas

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the sliced chicken with soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and oyster sauce. Mix well and let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the marinated chicken and stir-fry for 4–5 minutes until fully cooked and lightly browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add cabbage, mushrooms, carrots, bamboo shoots, and half of the green onions. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  • Return the cooked chicken to the pan and toss everything together.
  • Drizzle with sesame oil and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for another 1–2 minutes.
  • Warm the Mandarin pancakes or tortillas according to package instructions.
  • Spoon the Moo Shu chicken mixture into each pancake, garnish with the remaining green onions, roll up, and serve immediately.
