  • 4 large onions
  • 1 cup ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup rice (washed)
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh dill
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 cups vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Peel the onions and trim the tops and bottoms slightly. Hollow out the center layers.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef or turkey, washed rice, chopped herbs, tomatoes, finely chopped onion, salt, black pepper, and turmeric powder. Mix well.
  3. Fill each hollowed onion generously with the stuffing mixture.
  4. Place the stuffed onions upright in a baking dish.
  5. Pour vegetable broth around the onions to keep them moist while cooking.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown on top.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
