  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 1 kg chuck or braising steak (cut into 3 cm cubes)
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 garlic cloves (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 cm fresh ginger (peeled and chopped)
  • ½ tsp ground turmeric
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 cm cinnamon stick
  • 1 dried bay leaf
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and sear beef in batches until browned on all sides. Transfer to the slow cooker.
  2. In the same pan, sauté onions, garlic, and ginger for about 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the spices (turmeric, coriander, cumin, garam masala, red chili powder) and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Deglaze the pan with beef broth and water; simmer for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour the mixture into the slow cooker along with cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and salt.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours until beef is tender.
